weekend in the shed........

hello, it's me...back again....

being the last weekend of the month we have had a workshop in the shed. this month the ladies were making pyjama pants and/or table runners using jelly rolls/charm squares.

as usual we had a bit of fun.....lots of eating, chatting, laughing....... and some sewing....

the camera came out yesterday, but can you believe it, i missed getting photos of the ladies and their finished projects today......

lots of "head down, bum up" happened......

....and then we saw some fruits of their labour......

...time to go outside for a photo-shoot...

....then a bit of fun.....

....and the duchess?? do you want to know where she was while all this was going on??...well in the most comfy place in the shed of course......

....and to cap off a great weekend, one of the ladies made a pair of pj pants in s.i.l.k.....truly scrumptious.....fancy wearing these to bed!!!

....well, chickadees...that's another weekend over and now i have to spend some time getting ready for our next adventure.....on thursday we leave on a roadtrip to mannum in south australia where we will meet up with eight south australian friends and spend three nights on a houseboat....will be freezing cold and guess what???.....i d.o.n.'t c.a.r.e....will be so much fun....yes, i'll tell you all about it, well some things might have to remain secret...when we get home....

some catching up.....

hello chickadees......were you beginning to think that i was NEVER going to do another post????...me too!!

this is the third attempt to get this post published.....the first time, i had inserted the last photo and ....crash....explorer had encountered a problem and had to close...no pardons or do you mind....just g.o.n.e.......not happy jan....brushed myself off and did another post.....got it finished and decided to do a spellcheck...well, apparently that wasn't a good idea because it just went on...and on...and on....and on....and still didn't check any spelling but it wouldn't cancel and it wouldn't let me do anything...grr...and then.....crash....another post lost....so i will give typepad one last chance tonight and i won't be doing a spellcheck so will apologise in advance for any/all mistakes.....

we live on a few acres not far out of a smallish country town in northwest nsw...too far out of town for a council operated garbage collection service, but, apparently close enough to town to be charged council rates....grrrrrrr.....

about once a month mr lzilulu has to do what we call a "tip run" where we he gathers up all the garbage and we cart it all several kilometres to a council depot. it starts with the loading of the bins onto the 'ute...along with the overflow from my sewing room...which is the shed in the background of the photo.....

.....the duchess flo takes up her self-appointed position of fore(wo)man.....

...and then it is time to set off on our sunday afternoon drive to the tip.....

....before we know it, we have travelled several kilometres and it is time for mr lzilulu to do some work....unloading the rubbish.....

...he's always pleased to have the job done....

....and the duchess? well, she is always pleased to return home and stretch out in front of the fire in her favourite chair.....

.......if only she would clean up some of that mess in front of the fire...thankfully we only have short winters....

better go....will be back soon with some news about what a group of ladies got up to in the shed over the weekend...stay tuned...until then, keep well and be kind to each other....

.....another visitor....

I was walking around the house this morning when I V.E.R.Y. clearly heard Ms Chook Chook talking to me....nothing unusual about the talking bit..but, INSIDE the house, surely not!!! I had a bit of a look around and sure enough, there she was.....

...in the kitchen if you don't mind......happily looking around and scouring the floor for crumbs.....

.......checked out my new red shoes...... gave me lots of compliment too she did.......

She told me that she came inside to check whether there was any truth in the "houseyard gossip"...she had heard that we had a pretty special magnet on the 'fridge and believe me, she couldn't contain her excitement when she saw it..............

Ms Chook Chook has been an only childchook for quite sometime now and she is very comfortable wandering around the place as if she owns it......she doesn't even think she needs to earn her keep...eggs are only laid when she thinks she might miss out on some special grain....oh! yes! it's a chook's life here at lzilulu's..........

btw...if you see mr lzilulu can you please remind him to ensure he closes the door properly when he goes outside...thanks!

weapons of mass destruction.......

Can you hear the hysterical laughter from where you are??? WE (the afternoon tea group) BLEW UP GOOGLE.......we were chatting away and then things went really quiet......then all was revealed...it had been terminated by Google because we had too many posts in the one hour period.....165....gulp....and that was a cyber coffee break at the same time as the real life meeting of the rest of the group in Sydney...it was sooo much fun while it lasted...what with us "chatting" and text messages going backwards and forwards to the Sydney group.....oh!dear!...the power of a group of bstitchers.....who woulda thought it???!!!!!

I am a member of an online stitch'n'bitch patch'n'chat group and every year we make every effort to ALL meet up at the Sydney Quilt Show at Darling Harbour. Unfortunately, this year I am unable to make it...and feeling pretty miserable about it too...... Today is the big "meet up" day, with afternoon tea at the Show and then dinner at some posh place tonight....

Was feeling particularly miserable this morning when I heard the "last chance" aeroplane fly overhead on its way to Sydney.....sooo....a quick email to the  rest of the group who won't be in Sydney and we are meeting for a "cyber coffee" at 3pm....care to join us???...all welcome...

I have set up my afternoon tea spot.......

I went on a local spending spree this morning and picked up some books......

........some fatties, a jelly roll and some charm squares.....

......a knitting bag from the two dollar shop...isn't it cute??

I've even gathered together a little bit of chantelle show'n'tell to share with the others who will be joining me for coffee......just a little bit of knitting....no new sewing yet.....

After lots of cajoling, I had to cajole because I refuse to stoop so low as to bribe ;>) , my  sister has started a blog. Check it out at ChalmersClan8 . ....the horse..........

'morning chickadees......don't you hate it when it's Sunday morning, your head is thumping from too much Verdi the night before, EVERYTHING is ideal for a sleep-in.....AND....you can't sleep because your head is full of "what will I do todays"???? I mean to say, I had even emailed my friend Carey when I arrived home from the party to say that I didn't think I'd be going to Coonamble to slobber drool over  their Quilt Show today because I was still under the affluence of incahol and didn't fancy the two and a half hour drive through the scrub.....so what do I do???....toss and turn and go "oh! buggar!"....so here I am...catching up before I "hit the shed" for some fabric fondling.........and if I can do this post really quickly, I'll be over in the shed before Mr lzilulu surfaces for his planned day with his mistress........

Hundreds A couple of people have asked me what happened to the horse...... remember, the one who/that wandered into our paddock a few weeks ago... We spent the day eyeing each other off, well I was eyeing him off and he was just making himself at home really....as horses do! I was wondering how I would know if his correct owner came to claim him....can't be too careful, he was a goodlooking young man and I would hate to send him off with the wrong human.....Late afternoon, I could see him racing around the paddock, kicking up his heels and doing what could only be described as a HAPPY dance....just as a car was driving up the driveway...hmm....I think this horse knows this vehicle.... Anyway, to cut a long story short, out stepped a young lady nursing a baby, with tears streaming down her face....apparently she had been driving around for hours looking for "her boy" and was just so happy to see him...he was a bit of a Houdini and was often escaping from his paddock but he had never ventured so far from home before....A quick phonecall from Mum saw the horse float arrive and the happy horse was loaded and off they went...He hasn't been back, so perhaps he didn't like me as much as I wished thought....oh!well!....never mind....

Meanwhile, back at the ranch Flo was not at all fazed by the visitor and spent her day getting acquainted with her new seating arrangements.....in the TV room...in front of the fire no less...she just KNEW it was her chair from the minute it was released from it's plastic bag.....hmm....just another display of her being comfortable with the knowledge that she is the boss.........

Can hear some stirrings from the master bedroom so must get over to the shed before I do a guilt-trip and cook a three course breakfast for mr lzilulu.....like, THAT'S going to happen...NOT!!

Will be back later today with some more "catch up" news and some photos.......

It has been brought to my attention...thanks to Sheryl No Blog Yet and Gabbie No Blog, that the links in my last post aren't working....don't know yet what the problem is.....am getting a bit frustrated with the new Typepad Format....it took NINE attempts to get a post to publish yesterday.......it sort of lost a lot of it's "shine" after so many new starts!!!

keepit dam sew&sew retreat.......

yes, chickadees, ANOTHER sewing weekend......aren't I the luckiest person to be able to go to all these wonderful days/weekends?? Mr lzilulu doesn't seem to mind...he and flo seem to manage quite well without me....hmmmm....hope they don't get to like it toooo much ;>)!

Three of us like minded friends set off last Friday for a weekend of bliss at the Keepit Dam Sport & Recreation Centre....my first visit and I thought the water levels were a bit down, but it was soon obvious that those who had been at last year's retreat were super excited to see some water............apparently it was totally dry last year!

We settled into our designated bunkroom on arrival.....14 bunks in our room, only six occupants so we were lucky!! We couldn't help but think what it would be like with 14 teenagers in the same space.....

There were 62 ladies and we all got down to the business side of things as soon as we had made our beds.....no use wasting valuable sewing/crafting time!! The hall was spacious and the lighting adequate....lots of sewing machines were soon buzzing and didn't stop until Sunday afternoon. As for me....well, I just kicked back and did some knitting.....

The theme for the weekend was Black White and Red all over.....we were required to make a block or two, and these were bundled up into sets of twelve, raffle tickets were sold and winners announced....my name wasn't called out :>( ......but the winners were thrilled....all they have to do is put them together and bring them back next year for chantelle show and tell.......oh! the pressure......

There were twelve sets in all.....and six left over for the smaller set!

I walked around a lot stickybeakingchecking out everybody else's creative achievements. There was needlefelting, stamping on fabric, indigo dyeing, wool spinning, rag rug making....to name a few...at one stage I thought I had been transported back to the Girl's Day Out at Nundle....I found a whole table full of ladies working on their Nundle projects....hmm...they were the "noisy mob" at Nundle too..... ;>)

Saturday night was "dress up" night and there were some fancy outfits befitting the theme......even Mrs Slocombe and her pussy.......

but the winner HAD to be the lady who dressed in the newspaper ............ black & white and read all over!!

All in all, it was a special weekend of meeting new people, crafting, relaxing, eating all the meals prepared for us and on Saturday night, F*R*E*E*Z*I*N*G our butts off when the COLD change came through.....can't wait for next year!!

Am off again on Tuesday (!!!) ....this time to Sydney.....for work no less!! The ACAT National conference...rather exciting...will be good to network with all the other ACAT teams....BUT.....the best part will be Tuesday....almost a WHOLE day to do what we please....fly into the city early morning and the conference starts with a cocktail party on Tuesday night....guess where I will be for the day??.....in Borders Bookstore I hope....checking out Japanese Craft books, new novels and lots of English/American magazines....oh! dear! I'm salivating just thinking about it.......any "must look ats" will be appreciated....

'bye for now...time for a cuppa....then over to the shed to make some pj pants ..... and a dirty laundry bag to take to Sydney....am co-habitating with a work colleague and the usual plastic bag just WON'T do ;>)

a weekend in armidale.....

gee....it's far toooo long since my last post....don't you just HATE it when life gets in the way??

When we were last chatting I was racing to finish a surprise birthday gift for my sister....wasn't I? Well, I did get it to wrap up stage with only minutes to spare before Mother and I set off on our roadtrip to Armidale....

We arrived Saturday afternoon and were met with the remnants of an obviously wild surprise party the night before, hosted by her husband and a band of girlie friends. Apparently there was a fairly special gatecrasher, and he even posed for photos with the birthday girl...

I looked in under EVERY bed in the house but I couldn't find him, so can only assume that Mrs Hugh came to collect him at some reasonable hour.....I KNOW the birthday girl was pretty chuffed about all the shenanigans!!!

Sunday found me sitting at the F.R.O.N.T. of the Cathedral....I was there as sponsor for the Confirmation of my handsome nephew/godson..... I felt V.E.R.Y. U.N.C.O.M.F.O.R.T.A.B.L.E.........the last time I was THAT close to the front was when the Nuns sat me there for punishment during my boarding school days....for drinking the altar wine....for painting smiley faces on the ceiling lights in the dormitory......for "breaking bounds"....for....oh, I'll stop here....don't want you to think that I was a naughty girl......

Before we knew it, it was time for birthday cake.....the traditional family Rainbow Cake....made of course, by our 85yo mother........

Now was the time for gift revealing........she really is a "pink" girl, so I got the impression that she was impressed :>)

The placement of the pink thongs was NOT staged....she really is a lover of P.I.N.K............

The Wool Expo was on in Armidale on the weekend we were there and we even managed to squeeze in a visit on Sunday.......all that fleece/lanolin in one place was good eye/smell candy! Saw some creative stuff....felting...spinning....knitting...crochet work.....

Before we knew it, it was Monday morning and the household of eight were out the door to work and school and we were on the road home.....after a little detour to a woolshop......WOW (Wool On Wheels) where I managed to part with some cash and got to fondle some lovely fibres........

I still have some catching up to do...so stay tuned for some more posts....S.O.O.N!!

a visitor........

Had barely wiped the sleep from my eyes this morning when Mr lzilulu rang to tell me about the visitor we had! I had already seen her.....and VERY obviously the dogs also knew of her presence....the phone conversation ran something like this:-

me: so, you have rung to tell me about the visitor have you?

him: well, yes......I saw her this morning and shut the gate near the shed.....

me: well, I saw it too and shut the garden gate.....

him: ohhhh....forgot about the garden gate.....

me: hmm....thought so...it's the sort of blokey thing that you would do....forget MY garden gate....

him: back to the horse, she looks a bit hollow so can you fill the bathtub for her please....{my instant thought at this stage was....i really don't mind animals in my bathroom, like dogs and chooks, but a HORSE..NEVER}

me: ok.....will i ring the radio station and put an announcement over?

him: that's a good idea...tell them it's a dark brown mare with a star on the forehead and about 13hands high (yep mr lzilulu knows horsespeak!){my instant thought at this stage was...i'm a fabric fondler and KNOW my colours....right?...obviously not...i would SWEAR she is black....}

The phonecall ended at this stage and I did all the jobs....shut the gate into the bigger paddock, filled the bathtub (!!!), rang the local radio station, threatened Flo with DEATH if she didn't stop barking NOW, threatened Rae with a similar fate if she didn't do the same.....NOW!!

I guess it's just a waiting game now, until her owner collects her......she's lovely and quiet...I've had a pat and love that "horsey" smell! We both grew up on farms and pre-mistress days Mr lzilulu was a horsey type of person....was even a saddlebronc rider....any wonder I squirmed in my seat when I was watching Brokebank Mountain...but my growing up mustering methods were a little more "less horsey"....we hooned around the sheep in an old Landrover, clapped out motorbikes and relied HEAVILY on the expertise of our Kelpie dogs....and my mother is very grateful for not having had to do kitchen duty at Ponyclub!!!.....not like my Mother In Law!!!

Well, chickadees, must go...I have  a date with Bernie Bernina over in the shed....need to finish a little project before Saturday.....would give you a sneaky look but it is for my sister's birthday...and she has come out of the "blog lurking closet" and I would HATE to spoil the surprise!!

a girl's day in the country.......

Yesterday, very early, my friend Annette No Blog and I set off on a 3hour roadtrip to Nundle for a day of stitching....with two wonderful Australian designers....Leanne Beasley and Rosalie Quinlan no less....

WOW! What a day....are you ready for a photo-fest?? Hope so......

Let's start at the beginning and introduce the hostess with the mostess. Kerry and her band of happy helpers must have worked some VERY long hours to pull off such a successful day.....these things don't "just happen" and pandering to the needs of 100 excited ladies would be no mean feat...thank-you!

The other two most important ladies were, of course, Leanne and Rosalie....they were warm, friendly, and extremely generous with their time and expertise....and there was plenty of that on display!! They said they would love to come back.....and I really don't think they were gritting their teeth when they said it!!

I was gobsmacked from the very moment I walked in to the hall.....decorated beautifully with balloons and special place settings with HAND WRITTEN nametags.

I am a member of an online group called Patch'n'Chat. There are twenty ladies from Australia, New Zealand and America. Over the years we have become very friendly and we ALL met up at the Darling Harbour Quilt Show in 2006. Perhaps you read the story about us in Homespun???? Several members have been to America and three have just returned from an American trip to Paducah. Our American members live in Indianna and from all accounts are just THE best hostesses.....now, I know you are wondering what all this waffle has to do with a day in Nundle....right?....well, one of our members (Sheryl No Blog-Yet) lives in Tamworth and Kerry had us sitting next to each other....how special is that??!! Below is a picture of Sheryl practising her needleturn applique......

Then I got to meet heaps of Bloggers.....OMG what a fiendly mob...lost count of how many times I was introduced as the new blogger on the block!! At the HUGE risk of forgetting someone I will attempt to list the ones I met ;>) Bloom, Day Day, Happy in Quilting, Chooky Blue, Living in Paradise, Riley's Ramblings, Jelly Wares (who had everyone oohing and ahhing over her quilt from Don't Look Now), Dragonfly (who had her Op Shop PJ's quilt with her...so snuggly) Janelle Wind.......did I forget anyone?? Please let me know....nicely!

Rosalie and Leanne had set projects for us to work on. Rosalie's was a needle turn applique cushion from her new book to be released SOON, and Leanne's was a stitchery inspired by Chooky Blue....

Throughout the day there were lots of lucky door prizes drawn....I was lucky to win one, a trio of patterns from one of my favourite designers, Janelle Wind.....

......and my friend Annette No Blog (pictured below working on Rosie's project)won the biggest prize....an Ott-Lite Standard light valued at $399......she still can't believe it!! and I still haven't forgiven her...am soooo happy for her!

The day wasn't ALL about being locked in a hall with 100 other crazy like-minded ladies! We also managed to do a little shopping......some wool from the Woollen Mills to make some more of these scarves.......

.......and an ugly adorable hand knitted golliwog to add to my collection....

So....as you can see, it was a great girl's day in the country.....

three more sleeps & other stuff.......

I'm soooo excited....can't sleep....nervous.....did I say I was excited?? Only THREE more sleeps until a Girl's Day Out at Nundle :>) Can't believe that I am going to be in the SAME room as Leanne and Rosalie....how good will THAT be?! How wonderful is Kerry to organize the day for us?!

Have noticed that some other bloggers are talking about the countdown too....hope I get to meet you all :>)

Was visiting Granny Loz's Blog this afternoon and noticed a little something that is similar to some stitching I did early in the year. I share a dream with Mr lzilulu to one day SOON join the million or so caravanners on the big, long highway of retirement heaven.I was headhunted co-erced to apply for a new job twelve months ago. At interview I made it clear that I did not intend to stay FOREVER, so made a cover for my diary to serve as a daily reminder of my dream......then proceeded to tell Mr lzilulu that if we hadn't done something constructive about our dream by the end of the diary's life, that Flo and I would be leaving without him.......half the year is almost over...*gulp*

......don't you just love Anni's stitcheries? I do.......

what a difference a day can make.....

Have just returned home from a Quilt Exhibition in my local country town....such a nice way to spend Anzac Day......BUT.....it is raining (YIPPEE!) and the quilts were displayed OUTside.....and the quilts became REALLY wet :>( I had two quilts displayed and must admit that I was a little miffed and removed them early in the afternoon......am I wrong in thinking that the organisers were a little irresponsible in allowing the event to go ahead?

'evening chickadees....another busy day in the shed....eight ladies rocked up today....some from yesterday and some new ones. Most of the ladies used Moda charm square packs and some made their own charm squares...all used the same design and all results were different....just how/why does that happen!!

The weather was cool and overcast with a few spots of rain...ideal for some stitching and bitching chatting and eating......

sleeping with flo.........

When it was time to go to bed last night we couldn't find Flo....we called and called, NO R.E.S.P.O.N.S.E....on entering our bedroom, the reason for no answer became glaringly obvious....there was a very suspicious lump right at the bottom of the bed...under OUR doona......

Mr lzilulu obviously was feeling very compassionate and suggested we leave her there....surely it wouldn't be too difficult to share the queensize bed with our LITTLE furry friend......W.R.O.N.G.....it soon became very obvious that we were actually sharing HER bed and not, as we thought, her sharing our bed.

The night was rather long....what with various acrobatic manouvres from us both as we tried to accomodate her stretches, fits of laughter (after some fairly colourful adjectives!) when she decided that it was playtime at about 3am......but, being made of strong country stock, we persevered and survived the night.....it is amazing how much room such a tiny bundle can demand take up in such a big bed.... 

I demanded that she evacuate the bed early this morning so that I could tidy up the repose spot of us three, but, as you can see by the photo she pipped me at the post........

I'm off to freshen up the shed, getting ready for the company of some more fellow fabric fondlers....will get lots of photos today so consider yourselves warned ;>)

Mr lzilulu and a couple of his friends have "gone bush" to pick up an old Fordson tractor......unfortunately it won't be coming to live here with me but nevermind.....perhaps the next one....anyone out there in Blogland have an old Fordson tractor with spud wheels that they no longer have a use for??????

charm square workshop.....

The shed is busy! I built a shed about 4 years ago to use as my sewing room. Every Thursday I share my space with some like minded fabric fondlers.... Once a month we have a weekend workshop. This weekend we are making lap quilts using charm squares. Twelve ladies turned up today and after lots of chatting, sharing, laughing,eating, chatting and some sewing there were several almost finished quilts.....with prairie points no less!!And what do you think happened???......the batteries went flat in my camera after just one photo....drats....the photo was taken just after some of the ladies arrived and started setting up their machines. I promise to take/post more photos tomorrow! I had planned to do some hot rock massages....but no-one wanted to stop! I must be a little tougher tomorrow.....the massages are soooo nice, and simple to boot!!

Time now to rest and recharge the batteries for tomorrow...

the mistress................

I have just waved Mr lzilulu off as he goes to spend a day with his mistress. He spends so much time with her and most days he is whistling as he leaves....they obviously have a happy relationship....most of the time. They have been together for so long and I think I am very tolerant. The weekend is looming and I just KNOW he will spend most of the time pandering to her every need. He will grease her nipples,and she has 62 of them,so he gloats, give her a shampoo, do a mini dermabrasion,polish her shoes, (and she has more of them than me!!)and fluff her inner realms. He just seems to be always in her or under her, is it any wonder that I call her Myrtle Mistress? I feel I need to tolerate her presence and their relationship, because after all, she DOES contribute well to the bank balance that keeps ME in a manner to which I have become accustomed. But occasionally frequently I feel compelled to remind Mr lzilulu that I am much lower maintenance and worthy of sharing just a little more quality time with him.....

aveagoodweekend ladies. I am looking forward to spending the weekend in The Shed (my sewing room) with several other fabric fondlers...we are doing a patchwork workshop using some yummy Moda charm squares...perhaps Mr lzilulu thinks that Mr Bernie Bernina is my gigolo.....hmmmm....

at last.....

I have finally succumbed to the relentless pressure from my friends at Blueberry Lane and Amee's Blog and set up my very own place to air my rants and grievances keep in touch with the outside world...is there really a world outside the Blogosphere????....nervous?? you betcha.....

Every good post should have a photo and who would I be to disappoint?? I have been stalking seeing lots of ladies wearing these red shoes lately but for some reason none were wearing my size, so you can imagine my delight when I saw this pair in my local shoe shop yesterday! I'm already having panic attacks when I think about them becoming unwearable due to CONSTANT use....sooo....I've checked the pantry and if we can live on fresh air for the next week,then the grocery budget will be used to buy another pair.........;) I really don't think HWTHSBO (he who thinks he should be obeyed) will notice another week of cereal for dinner....
